This family recipe for devils food cake dates back to at least the fifties,
maybe even a couple of decades before that!
Aunt Ilene was Aletha's Mom’s youngest sister. (And where
Aletha's middle name comes from). She died in her early thirties of cancer.
Aletha was only three or four at the time, but she can remember her.
Aletha doesn’t know if Aunt Ilene made up this recipe, but
it was always referred to as hers. Now it's yours, too.
New Italian Recipes Presents:
Aunt Ilene's Devils Food Cake
2 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons baking soda
4 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup boiling water
Preparation:
Combine all of the ingredients, adding the water last.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick
comes out clean.
Devils food cake has been around for a long time. Next time
a nice, chocolaty cake sounds good, try this one instead of a mix.
